At Herstmonceux Health Centre we have Independent Integrative Practitioners offering clinics at the Health Centre. These Independent Integrative Practitioners offer varied and diverse practices all of which are independent of NHS services and clients will be charged for the service.
Integrative medicine combines conventional treatments with measured and effective complementary therapies. It empowers people to take control of their condition, supporting them to use the most effective therapeutic approach to restoring health and wellbeing.
Our vision is to provide Integrative Medicine, supported by the NHS and we are looking at ways to achieve this in our 5 year development plan. For now, patients pay our Independent Integrative Practitioners direct on a per session basis.
All Independent Integrative Practitioners that see Clients at Herstmonceux Health Centre do so independently of the NHS service.
Julia is a qualified Medical Herbalist graduating with honours from the College of Phytotherapy in 2000.
A Member of the College of Practising Phytotherapists (MCPP) and with diplomas in Nutrition and Therapeutic Massage, Julia has taught at the School of Herbal Medicine, lectured at East London and Westminster Universities, consulted for the WWF and Neal's Yard and runs a range of courses, walks and workshops in Herbal Medicine and plants.
Committed to raising awareness about plants, healing, and sustainability, Julia has published in the European Journal of Herbal Medicine, WWF and Plantlife.
Julia makes many of her herbal preparations herself and as far as possible the herbs she uses are organic and from sustainable and traceable sources.
Julia has chosen to specialise in supporting people with Lyme’s and co-infections, which arose from her multi-systemic approach to medicine. Specifically, over the last 6 years she has attended numerous conferences across Europe concerned with Lyme’s, engaged in personal research and collaborated with healthcare professionals across the board.
To watch Julia in a film doing a herbal walk and explaining more about what she does, visit her website at www.herbal-consultant.com
The focus of Julia’s work is to help improve the body’s own natural ability to heal itself by using herbs, nutrition and making life style changes so that the body has a chance to enhance ones own vitality and strength. Herbs will be used to help reduce inflammation, co–infections, replace certain nutrients depleted in the body and help protect the body from microbial invasion by enhancing the immune system and reducing the side effects of medication.
During your first consultation Julia will take details about your past and present medical history, diet, lifestyle and any medication you may be already taking. This will take approximately an hour. Julia will also take your blood pressure and recommend any further tests that are appropriate to your condition.
After this consultation Julia will discuss the appropriate treatment with you and liaise with Dr Simmons. The herbal treatment will then be prepared at Julia’s dispensary at the Albion clinic (based in Brighton) and sent to you. The treatment may come in the form of a tincture, infusion, cream or tablet.
When supporting people with Lyme’s, Julia use her 15 years of working as a medical herbalist to tailor make individual prescriptions, she often uses the Stephan Bruhner Protocol and supports people taking Cowden or Bryon White formulas.
The use of medicinal plants aims to help:
-Strengthen the immune system via the gut to enable the body to react well to treatment.
-Reduce inflammation in the body and inflammatory cascades.
-Keep pathogen loads down e.g. viral, bacterial, fungal, parasitic
-Manage underlying co-infections, side effects of antibiotics and metal toxicity.
-Help with the detoxification of the body: It is important to keep bowels moving and the body hydrated and rested.
-Support the nervous system and well being of the client: gentle supportive life-style changes are recommended, including plenty of sleep and gentle exercise. Acupuncture and massage are can also be helpful.
In terms of your herbal prescription, this may change fortnightly though usually herbs are taken 5ml teaspoon, 3 times a day, 20 minutes before food in warm water.
You may be prescribed any of the following herbs; of course claims cannot be made as to their efficacy as clinical trials have not been carried out on combinations or formulas.
First visit ( 1 - hours) £60
