Why there are different vaccines for under and over 65 year olds
Under 65’s are being offered a 4 strain vaccine because they are more vulnerable to the additional B strain which is included in this vaccine.
Over 65’s are much less vulnerable to this B strain, so are receiving a 3 strain vaccine. This particular vaccine has been adapted to create a STRONGER immune response within the body, because older bodies have a weaker immune system. Therefore they will have a higher level of immunity by using this enhanced vaccine.
Because supply of these vaccines is outside our control and delivery is staggered over 3 months, we are trying to ensure our patients are vaccinated as quickly and effectively as possible.
