Our Health Centre

Access into the Health Centre

All the consultation rooms are situated on the first floor which is accessible from the car park.  We have disabled parking bays directly outside the main entrance to the Health Centre and there is a wheelchair located in the entrance lobby for patients use.  We have also recently installed Cycle hoops.

We also have a separate room for patients that are feeling especially unwell and do not wish to sit in the main area.

Welcoming new patients

We welcome all new patients. We cover a wide rural area from Lower Horsebridge and North Hailsham* in the West; to Rushlake Green and Dallington in the North; to Boreham Street/outskirts of Ninfield in the East; and down to Wartling in the South. Smokefree policy inc. e-cigarettes

We have a Smokefree Policy in place which includes all areas of our site: the enclosed areas in line with the Health Act 2006; but given the risk to health and our role to support, encourage and protect people's health, we have extended the ban to include all external areas on our site e.g. the entrance/foyer, car park and gardens. This policy applies to all employees, consultants, contractors, patients, customers and visitors. Anyone seen smoking, including e-cigarettes, on site will be asked to leave. 

Wheelchair on site

We  have a wheelchair on site at the Health Centre for patient use, the wheelchair is located in the entrance lobby - the wheelchair was kindly donated by  A B Mobility of 7a St Marys Walk, Hailsham.

Online access

You can book appointments and order repeat prescriptions online.  Please contact our reception team for your log on details.     If there are no appointments available on the day you require, please contact us on 01323 833535, as we do reserve some for booking on the day.  

Text Message Reminders

We offer text message reminders - please ensure we have your mobile number so that you can receive a text reminder of your appointment.  If you cancel your appointment, you will unfortunately still receive a reminder but please ignore this.   If you wish to cancel your appointment using the SMS option please reply to the message using on the word   CANCEL


We would like to email letters and invites to patients to keep costs down, help the environment and communicate with you quicker. If you would like to take advantage of this, please email us via the 'comments and suggestion form' on our 'contact details' page or complete one of the slips on reception.

Sustainable Building

The vision behind the new innovative Herstmonceux Integrative Health Centre was to create a building in an environment which encompassed the health and well being of patients and staff alike.  A place of calm in uplifting surroundings with an abundance of light to create a unique setting within the NHS, representing health and vitality rather than illness and disease.

The design of the building was specific in that we wanted it to be as environmentally conscious as possible within a clinical setting. We attained this by using natural and recycled products wherever possible, thereby having minimum impact on the local environment, we used local tradesmen and sourced local products to further reduce the buildings carbon footprint.  We are very proud of what we have achieved and as a result feel we have realised our dream of a Health Centre for Herstmonceux and surrounding areas offering high quality health care, for many years to come.

A little bit about the building

The windows are as large as possible to maximum natural sunlight therefore cutting down on electricity and heating.  We have no air conditioning but a natural ventilation system to constantly cool the building and refresh the environment. We have sun pipes to further enhance natural lighting.

The grass roof ensures that we blend in with our environment and is a sustainable roof design. In due course the landscaping will replenish the ground disturbed by the building process and create an area full of medicinal plants.

Heating and hot water is provided by a biomass boiler giving us as near to carbon neutral energy as we could achieve. The heating is an underfloor system giving a uniform constant temperature throughout the building.

Sewage is treated in a Klargester biodigester with clean water as a byproduct and rain water is collected in the swale making a beautiful pond feature for wildlife.

Wood clad walls will attract insects and birds and bat boxes will be added in due course. The green roof and brown roofs are also havens for wildlife.

Presently we haven ’ t any solar panels but all our electricity is provided by Ecotricity which provide 100% green energy from windfarms.


The majority of the desks and shelving in the building are recycled from a Local Authority.

Staff room furniture, filing cabinets, office chairs and lockers are recycled furniture from the 2012 Olympics and Para Olympics.

Paper light surgery

In 2013 we achieved paper light status which means we no longer store reams of paperwork all our information is securely stored electronically

Recycling in house

All our paper, glass, cardboard and plastic is recycled wherever possible.

Patient Services - Statement of Intent

We currently offer the following facilities for patients, aged 16 and over:

* book, view, amend and cancel appointments online

* order and view repeat prescriptions

* view immunisations, test results, allergies and medications

We are also working towards expanding online access to records to include more detailed information on illnesses and procedures.

We will be doing this in the following stages to ensure the necessary processes are in place to safeguard patient confidentiality and promote effective use of records access:

1. Pilot patient access to full coded records with a small group of patients

2. Review this process and identify whether we can improve any aspect

3. Promote access to priority patients - for example those with long term conditions

4. Offer access to all patients over the age of 16 who request it

5. Establish procedures for parents and carers to request online access to records of patients they care for.

For the future… 

We have lots of forthcoming environmental projects planned for the building, which we will be update on our website.

You can never have everything on your build wish list but we feel that we have created a sustainable building which is a pleasure to work in capable of meeting the increasing health demands in General Practice and where you want it - close to your home.
