Pharmacy First Service

This new service improves access to healthcare by directing patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional, whether that’s a GP or a pharmacist.

What’s Included?

Pharmacists can now offer advice, treatment, and supply NHS medicines for these common conditions:

• Impetigo (Age 1+)
• Infected Insect Bites (Age 1+)
• Sore Throat (Age 5+)
• Sinusitis (Age 12+)
• Earache or Ear Infections (Age 1–17)
• Shingles (Age 18+)
• Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections (Women, Age 16–64)

If you are not within these age ranges, pharmacists can still offer advice but may refer you to a GP if needed.

Under this service, pharmacists are able to offer advice and, if necessary, provide medicine to treat your conditions. If they are unable to assist you, they will direct you to your GP Surgery, or possibly A&E as needed.

Using Pharmacy First helps make GP appointments more available, which allows us to ensure everyone receives the proper treatment and care, in a timely manner.

 

• Cardiovascular Health Risk

  A cardiovascular risk assessment is an assessment of a person's risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), such as the risk of developing heart disease or a stroke, and provides an assessment of the degree of risk.

  The assessment provides an estimate of your risk of developing CVD over the following 10 years.

• MSK Self Referral

  Patient self-referral to physiotherapy has been nationally recognised to be a cost effective and innovative model of care.

  This is particularly beneficial for patients with both acute and long-term musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
